Introduction |
|
The scope of BS Botany & Zoology
has expanded dramatically during recent years and there is no survival in this current
age if we ignore the life sciences. These degrees are enriched by cutting edge research
across a range of disciplines, from Biodiversity, Conservation Genetics, Environmental
Biology, Toxicology & Stress Physiology. It offers modules ranging from Conservation
to Immunobiology. As a result, students can experience many disciplines in which
new technologies are making important contributions. University inherited this Department
from Government College, Sargodha. In the former Government College, FSc Pre-medial
classes started in 1949. BSc Chemistry, Botany and Zoology classes started in 1958.
The Department started BS programs in 2005-06 session. This program has been designed
for the graduates with skills in the application of Biological Sciences. BS degrees
aims to provide students with a broad, well-balanced scientific background and the
opportunity to study animal, plant and microbial biology in detail. Throughout the
course, students study both fundamental and applied aspects of modern biology, including
Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Conservation Genetics, Environmental Biology
and Conservation Ecology. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of this
biological knowledge to exciting recent advances in animal, plant and Microbial
Biotechnology, food production and Environmental Sciences. These applications range
from genetically modified animals and crops to environmental issues. The BS Zoology
and Botany degrees place a strong emphasis on choice by allowing students to specialize
in particular aspects of Biology. BS-Botany, BS-Zoology consist of 8 semesters.
In the first four semesters BSc syllabi of Chemistry Botany & Zoology in line
with HEC scheme will be followed along with English, Islamic Studies & Pak Studies
as compulsory subjects. Students qualified in this course shall be eligible for
MS programme. The avenues for higher education shall also be opened to them in the
form of PhD in relevant subjects.
